Ground Hornet & Ground Wasp Removal in Arnold & Jefferson County
"Ground hornets" usually means yellow jackets, but it can also be cicada killers or digger wasps. Those look scary but rarely sting. Knowing which one you have changes what we do.
For the aggressive ones, we treat the nest and come back if needed. For the harmless ones, we'll tell you so, and you can decide whether it's worth treating.
Signs you have ground hornets
- A hole about the size of a quarter with wasps flying in and out
- Bare dirt or a small mound around the hole
- Several holes in a sunny, sandy patch (often digger wasps)
- Large wasps hovering over the lawn in July (cicada killers)
How we handle it
- 1 Identify the wasp before anything gets treated.
- 2 Treat the nest at dusk when the colony is inside.
- 3 Recheck in a few days and retreat any active holes.
What you can do in the meantime
- Overseed thin patches; most ground wasps prefer bare dirt
- Keep mulch beds from drying out completely
- Fill holes after a nest is gone so they don't move back in
When to call us
